Emergency Preparedness and EmComm

Emergency Preparedness and EmComm is the subject for the month October

October is a good time for all of us to check our radio gear and review our own personal Emergency Preparedness.
(NO chicken Little the sky is NOT falling).

“Do you have an emergency plan and an emergency kit ready to be self sufficient for at least 3 days ?” ( Canadian Red Cross).
For organizations Red Cross offers a free, web based emergency preparedness planning program.

Salvation Army and other organizations are part of the province and national disaster response organization that often look to amateur radio operators for communication assistance during both local and national emergency planning and response.

There are may ways to say this:
“if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”
“If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you nowhere”
“Failure to strategize guarantees an uphill battle”
“Proper forecasting is the cornerstone of project success”
“Wing it and you will bring it (failure)”
” No prep means no progress”

Seven (7) steps to Emergency Response:
1. Planning
2. Training
3. Drills
4. Education
5. Technology
6. Co-Ordination
7. Communication

Check your gear…check your personal Preparedness List (your safety should always be first so that you are well enough to help others)
Be ready to help when help is needed.
