For many decades, amateur radio operators in Fredericton and the surrounding communities have shared a common interest in radio communications, experimentation, public service and fellowship. At the centre of much of that activity has been the Fredericton Amateur Radio Club, known on the air by its club callsign VE9ND.

Establish in the early 1950’s, the club became involved in virtually every aspect of amateur radio: education, Field Day, contesting, emergency and public-service communications, repeater development, special-event operations, lighthouse activations, DXing and the encouragement of newcomers to the hobby.
The story of FARC is also a story of the changing nature of amateur radio itself—from the early post-war years of relatively simple radio equipment using Voice and Morse-code communication, through the growth of VHF and UHF repeaters, to today’s digital modes, satellite communications and computer-assisted radio.
Throughout that history, VE9ND has provided a recognizable identity for Fredericton area amateurs on the air.
